Lava cave Iceland tour & Reykjanes peninsula

For the lava cave Iceland tour & Reykjanes peninsula there is pickup at hotel we drive in the direction of Reykjanes. First we stop at the Bridge between continents. Here the continental divide is obvious and you can walk from America to Europe by crossing a bridge. We then stop at Gunnuhver, a highly active geothermal area of mud pools and steam vents, named after an angry female ghost whose spirit was trapped in the hot springs.

Just below Gunnuhver is the area where the first lighthouse in Iceland was built. He has fallen into the ocean and a new lighthouse is standing at the coast. The Coastline below is beautiful with basalt rocks and the powerfull waves splashing on the ocean cliffs. Next up is a short stop to see Brimketill. This is where the Trolls used to take a bath in the ocean. Here the waves are very big and sometimes people get a splash from the ocean as the waves hit the rocks.

In the right conditions we can off road all the way to a remote lighthouse located on the end of a huge ocean cliff. If you like hiking then we will add a short hike to an old Volcano crater with great views over the area.

Seltún a geothermal area of great beauty is worth a quick stop before reaching Kleifarvatn, the largest lake on the peninsula. Kleifarvatn is a volcanic lake 100% fed by spring water and is there for very clear. Our super jeep allows us to drive all the way to the lake to a nice quiet place.

Next up is Caving, the Lava tube Leiðarendi is about 900 meters long and in there is about 150 meter walk towards it. The cave lies, in fact, in a circle is pitch black without light but you will get a helmet and head light so you will easily see the wonders that the cave has to offer.
